Birds of Pray at Arrogant Bastards

G-1 Pitchers Carrasco & Scherzer set the tone for the series. The teams matched zeros for 8 innings, until J. Turner hit a 2-out single in the bottom of the 9th to give the Bastards a 1-0 win. Starters combined for 13.1 innings of 8-hit ball.

G-2 Birds used a 2-run G. Springer homer to take a 3-2 lead. Bastards then jumped on Betances in the 8th for 4 runs, capped by a C. Utley 3-run homer to gain a 6-3 win. Bastards also got homers from Trout & Stanton.

G-3 V. Worley threw 8.1 innings of 3-hit shutout ball, & McCann hit a solo, to give the Birds a 3-0 win.

Lymebees at Lemonheads

Game 1; Gray vs Shoemaker; Lemonheads score 1 run in the 2nd on a Murphy double. Bees tie the game in the 5th. Lemonheads get a 2-run HR by Desmond in the 7th. Bees get a 2-run pinch single by Braun in the 9th to tie the game. Bees get a run-scoring double by Castro in the 12th and Giles comes in for the save. Bees win 4-3.

Game 2; Bumgarner vs Liriano; Lemonheads score on a fielders choice by Jackson in the 2nd. Bees get 2 runs on a double by Ruiz in the 6th. Lemonheads tie the game in the 8th on a single by Loney. Bees score in the 9th on a double by Upton and Kimbrel gets the win after blowing the save in the 8th. Bees win 3-2.

Game 3; Arrieta vs Young; Bees get 2 gift HRs and take a 4-run lead after the 3rd. Lemonheads get one back in the 5th. Bees would bat around plus in the 8th and 9th, scoring 7 runs in both innings. Lemonheads would get 2 runs in the 8th as the Bees win 18-3.

Lymebees record at 30-19.

Speakers at The Plague

Game 1 – [yawn] Alfredo Simon hurls a 5-hit shutout, the 8th time the Speakers have been shutdown in 53 games. 3 1st inning runs — all with 2 outs and nobody on — lead The Plague to the easy 3-0 win.

W – Simon; L – Alex Wood (2-1)

Game 2 – The Plague roll 3 hits in the bottom of the 12th, highlighted by Denard Span’s walk-off 7, to take a 5-4 victory. Each team homers twice: Michael Brantley and DJ Lemahieu for The Plague; Anthony Rendon (6) and a 2-run HR to tie in the 8th from Rajai Davis (2).

W – Kelvim Herrera; L – Jeurys Familia (2-3)

Game 3 – The Speakers get their first 4-hit inning in what seems like decades in the 7th inning to shatter a 1-1 1st inning tie. 3 runs result in a 4-1 win to prevent the sweep. Anthony Rizzo (3-5, 2-RBI) leads the way. As frustration continues to boil over, Buster Posey gets ejected in the 1st following a called 3rd strike.

W – Chris Archer (3-6); L – Scott Kazmir; S – Trevor Rosenthal (1)

Birds of Pray at Lemonheads

G-1 Molina hits a 2-run HR to help Birds to 3-0 lead. Heads tie at 3-3 on a 2-run double by Panda. Birds score 4 runs in 7-9 innings to win 7-3. Molina had 3 RBIs for Birds.
G-2 Heads build a 4-1 lead thru 7 on RBIs by Sandoval(2), Blackmon & Desmond. Birds fall short on comeback, getting a ph single by Votto & a solo by Prado. Greinke 7ip, 8h, 1bb 3k in Heads 4-3 win.
G-3 Birds get back-to-back doubles from Springer & Davis to go up 2-0, then Heads post 3 capped by a 2-run single by Panda for 3-2 lead. Heads get 3-run homer from Y. Gomes in the 5th for 6-2 lead & McHugh makes it stand up in a 9-4 Heads win. Birds rolled 4 homers vs McHugh (+14 power), who turned back 3 by rolling three 13s. Ross (4-2) 5ip, 8 hits, 6 runs.

Unhinged Wahoos at Speakers

Game 1 – Scott Van Slyke’s 3rd inning 3-run HR (4) breaks a scoreless tie. Each team dents the plate just once the rest of the way for a 4-1 Speakers win.

W – Bud Norris (1-3); L – Danny Duffy; S – Jeurys Familia (4)

Game 2 – Albert Pujols’ 2 singles total the Speakers offensive offense. One other hit rolled in the 9th inning goes for naught against Grade 20 Corey Kluber. The Wahoos score bookends: in the 1st on a 2-run single by Edwin Encarnacion; and in the 9th, on Devon Mesoraco’s solo shot. Wahoos win 3-0 in the Speakers 7th time shut out in 51 games.

W – Kluber; L – Chris Archer (2-6)

Game 3 – The Speakers carry a 4-2 lead to the 7th when the Wahoos explode for 3 doubles, 2 singles and [you guessed it], a Jason Heyward error, to score 4 times and win 6-5. Mesoraco and Pedro Alvarez solos account for the Wahoos first 2 runs. Rajai Davis (1) and Pujols (4) hit solos for the lowly Speakers.

W – Brad Boxberger; L – Jordan Zimmermann (5-4)
