#2 ABs and #3 Browns

The Browns resumed their series against the Bastards today needing just one win to go to advance. They did not get it.

Game 5: Montgomery v Hamels. Trout led off with a double and Piscotty and Stanton both walked to load the bases. Sanchez walked to bring the first run in followed by an Ozuna RBI single. Longoria made it 3-0 with a sac fly. The Bastards added 2 more in the second and cruised to a 7-1 win. AB’s 7/7/2 Browns 1/5/0

Game 6: Hill v Scherzer. In his first 12 starts of the year covering the regular season and post season Rich Hill was 11-0 with a 1.56 ERA. The most runs he had allowed in a start was 4. In the first inning of Game 6 the AB’s got a lead off single from Trout and Piscotty followed with a base hit of his own. Ortiz popped up and Stanton struck out but this was a day where the AB’s got every big hit. Sanchez lined an RBI single and Ozuna walked to load the bases. Longoria rolled a homer which was turned back to a bases clearing double. Trout led off the 2nd with a double but was cut down at the plate on a Piscotty single by Fowler. AB’s 4/8/2 Browns 2/4/0

Game 7: Lester v Phelps. With 2-outs in the 1st the AB’s got back-to-back solo shots from Ortiz and Stanton. This time the Browns showed a bit of a fight getting a Single from Reddick followed by a 66 from Dozier… which, of course, was promptly turned back to a double. With 2nd & 3rd Abreu brought a run in with a ground out and Belt tied it with a Sac fly. But, it didn’t stay tied for very long. Ozuna opened the bottom of the 2nd with a single and Gattis made it 4-2. Dozier had another homer turned back in the 4th but after Ramirez doubled in the 6th Dozier’s third double of the day made it 4-3. In the 9th Reddick led off with a single and stole 2nd. But as with the rest of the day there was no getting a big hit for the Browns as Dozier, Abreu and Belt failed to get a hit or even a few productive outs. AB’s 4/7/0 Browns 3/6/0.

Congratulations to Steve and the Bastards. I’m sure the match up with Brian will be awesome.

Browns management will take the next week or two to decide if we will return for 2018.

2017 Playoffs – Browns vs. ABs

The Browns and Arrogant Bastards got their series started tonight.

Game 1: Montgomery v Hamels. The Brown got right to work in the top of the 1st. Ramirez led off the game with a double but he was thrown out by Trout on a Reyes single. Reyes went to 2nd on the throw and came in to score on an RBI single by Dozier. Trout leveled the scores with a dinger leading off the bottom of the 4th. In the Sharts 6th Dozier worked a 1-out walk off Jansen and stole second. With 2 outs Reddick was announced to pinch hit for Guyer and the AB’s went to the pen for Britton. The Browns decided to let Reddick bat and actually said “Josh you’ll just have to roll a homer and have it turned back to a double” and that’s exactly what happened to put the Sharts up 2-1. The Browns added 2 unearned runs in the 8th and Donnie Hart and Brad Ziegler closed out the game. Browns 4/9/1 Bastards 1/3/1 W) Montgomery L) Jansen S) Ziegler

Game 2: Hill v Scherzer. Dexter Fowler led off the game with a second column triple and came into score on Reddick’s second column double to steak the Browns to a 1-0 lead. Brandon belt drove in 2 with a double in the 4th and another with a sac fly in the 6th. Fowler added a solo shot in the top of the 9th but the real star was Rich Hill. He went 8 2/3 of shut out ball allowing just 3 hits (all doubles) and 3 walks while striking out 12. When Healy rapped a 2-out double in the 9th Hill was denied a chance at a CG/SH and Pedro Strop got pinch hitter A. Gonzalez to end the game. Browns 5/9/0 Bastards 0/3/1. W) Hill L) Scherzer (CG)

Game 3: Lester v Phelps. This time it was the AB’s getting on the board first as Ozuna singled, Gattis walked and Andrus singled in run, all with 2 outs in the 2nd. The Browns got that run right back on a Dozier solo HR in the bottom of the 2nd. Big Papi put the AB’s back in front with a lead off homer in the 4th and Saladino added another round-tripper in the 5th to make it 3-1 AB’s. Bastards 3/5/0 Browns 1/5/0 W: Bedrosian L: Lester (CG) S: Davis

Game 4: Cueto v Santana. The Sharts got things started in the 3rd when Belt walked, Salvy Perez singled and Maybin slapped an RBI single to make it 1-0. The AB’s went 10 up, 10 down before Trout singled in the 4th, but he was unable to get past 1st. In the 5th Fowler led off with a single, stole 2nd and moved to 3rd on a Belt fielders choice. Maybin made it 2-0 with his second RBI single of the day. With a 2-0 lead the Browns pulled Cueto after 5 innings of 2-hit work in favor of Donnie Hart. Hart and Matt Bush kept the Bastards off the board while the Browns got 3 more runs in the 6th and one in the 8th to push the series lead to 3-1. Browns 6/9/0 Bastards 0/2/0 W) Cueto L) Santana

The series will either resume Wednesday or next weekend.

ABs 2017 Regular Season

I had some good luck late in the season to force a deciding game for first but sometimes that 1/36 chance goes against you.

Some quick notes
Shutouts
AB’s shut out their opponent 9 times and was shutout 10 times
AB’s go 17-9 in one run games
That’s all I’ll give up at this time

I accomplished my goal of a 5th straight playoff appearance with my highest finish in that stretch.
After a slow start, not pulling the plug on one deal and pulling it on another the team came together In the middle part of the season.

Good luck to Tony, Brian, Kevin and Bob in the playoffs. It’s down to 5 for the title.

Shartlesville Browns at Arrogant Bastards

The Brown headed north to take on the Arrogant Bastards last night.

Game 1: Lester v Santana. The AB’s got 2-out baserunners in the 1st, 3rd and 5th off Lester, but couldn’t deliver the next big hit. Meanwhile the Sharts got lead off hits in the 1st, 3rd and 7th but likewise couldn’t deliver a run. Big Papi led off the bottom of the 7th with a double and was lifted for a pinch runner in Dee Gordon. But 3 successive flyballs to the outfield failed to advance Gordon even one base. Still scoreless in the top of the 9th, Maybin reached on an E4 and Seager doubled to make it 2nd & 3rd with no out. Ramirez then hit a ball to center and both runners tagged. Seager was thrown out at 3rd but Maybin scored what would be the only run of the game. Zeigler Worked a 1-2-3 9th for the save. Browns 1/4/0 AB’s 0/3/1

Game 2: Rodon v Hamels. The Slug-Fest of the series. The Brown scored 4 runs on 7 hits including 3 homers (Calhoun, Reyes & Belt) and were still crushed by the AB’s thanks to homers from Trout, Gattis, Andrus and Piscotty. AB’s 9/9/0 Browns 4/7/0

Game 3: Cueto v Scherzer. The Browns opened the scoring with a Seager solo shot in the 1st. The AB’s came right back with a 2 run job from Papi in the bottom half. The Browns drew even in the 3rd when Ramirez worked a 2-out walk and Dozier doubled him home. In the home half of the 7th back-to-back singles to open the frame chased Cueto. With 1st & 3rd and no outs, pinch-hitter Saladino hit one to RF to score Pillar and break the deadlock, the roll needed to get him at home was 54, so naturally I rolled 53. The Browns gave it a shot in the 9th against Britton when Abreu smacked a 2-out double, but again we couldn’t get the next big hit as Belt k’d with the tying run in scoring position. AB’s 3/7/0 Browns 2/3/0

Next up for the Sharts is a Trip to Hustontown to take on the Bees on 10/22, but we will try to play at lest 2 other series before then.
