Shartlesville Browns vs. Shooting Stars II

The Browns took on the Stars today in Lewisberry.

Game 1 Miranda v Quintana: The Browns used singles from Abreu, Rodriguez, Maybin and Tomlinson (in his OOTL debut) to take a 2-0 lead in the 2nd. That looked like a good lead as Miranda was cruising, also in his league debut. But then the Stars broke out the long balls. Broxton led off the 5th with one and Inciarte added a 2-run shot to put the Stars ahead after 5. Villar touched ’em all to lead off the 6th to push the lead to 4-2. In the bottom of the 7th Tomlinson rapped a 2-out single and promptly swiped 2nd. Chapman relived Quintana but Dexter Fowler came through with an RBI single to make it 4-3. The Sharts didn’t touch Chapman the rest of the way as he earned a 7 out save. Stars 4/6/0 Browns 3/8/2

Game 2 Tillman v DeGrom: The Stars struck first in the 2nd as Carpenter doubled and scored on a Diaz single. The Sharts knotted it up at one in the bottom half when Kyle Seager singled, went to third on a Pence error and scored on an Abreu ground-out. The Stars hit the front again in the 3rd when Jankowski led off with a single, moved up on a FC and was plated on a Pedroia single. The score was still 2-1 when Corey Seager reached on an E5 to leadoff the 7th. With one out Dozier singled to chase DeGrom. Rzepczynski came in and struck out pinch hitter Brandon Guyer but a highly unlikely triple from Jose Abreu put the Sharts up 3-2 on 3 unearned runs. The Browns pen held up to cement the win. Browns 3/4/0 Stars 2/5/2

Game 3 Cueto v. Lackey: The Sharts got a run in the first on an RBI double from C. Seager but Cueto gave it right back in the bottom on back-to-back 2-out doubles from Pence and Ramos. In the 2nd the Stars used a Carpenter walk and a Diaz triple followed by a Nunez sac fly to make it 3-1. Salvy Perez homered to lead off the 3rd but Villar got that run right back with a lead off job of his own in the 4th. Although the Stars loaded the bases later that inning Villar’s was the only run that scored. The Browns touched up Rzepczynski again in the 5th as C. Seager led off with a single and Abreu followed up with an RBI double. Lorenzen and Chapman locked the Browns to mark the third straight one run game in the series. Stars 4/8/0 Browns 3/7/1

Game 4 Hill v Wright: Trea Turner led off the game with a double and made it 1-0 Browns on a C. Seager two bagger. Dozier walked but the Sharts couldn’t capitalize as the Stars turned a double play. Turner stayed hot by homering in the third and back-to-back doubles from C. Seager and Abreu pushed the lead to 3-0… all before the Stars had their first base runner against Hill. That first runner was a walk by Pedroia in the 4th and the first hit was a double to Tomas to make it 2nd & 3rd. Villar delivered the first run with a sac fly to make it 3-1. Corey Seager stayed blazing hot with another RBI double in the 5th reaching for the 7th straight time over the last two games. The Stars got another sac fly RBI from Villar in the 6th but Hill and Nate Jones dodged a few bullets to preserve the 4-2 win. Browns 4/9/0 Stars 2/5/0

The Browns improve to 11-5 and will take on the Wahoos next weekend and the Lymebees on Monday 4/3.

Notes:

The Browns slashed .219/.254/.352 in a noticeable decrease from their first 3 series (.249/.340/511).

Corey Seager went 6-9 with 4 doubles and drove in 3 runs in 3 games played. However, Jose Abreu was the real star of the series for the Browns, driving in 5 with two doubles and a triple.

The Browns pen worked 10 scoreless innings.

After hitting 18 homers in their first 10 games the Sharts have managed just 3 in their last 6.

The Browns are now 6-3 in games started by righties and 5-2 in games started by lefties.

Speakers vs. Shooting Stars II – Another Perspective

Game 1 Wright vs Colon

Wow is all I can say. Here goes:

Stars get 2 in the 1st on a triple by Dyson followed by a double from Schimpf. With two outs, both Ramos and Carp slap singles. 2nd Inning: Stars get 2 more on singles by Inciarte and Dyson followed by a Schimpf double to plate them both. Top of the 3rd: Stars lead off with a Ramos HR. Carpenter flies out, then both Nunez and Pedroia go back-to-back. Stars take a 7-0 lead.

Bottom of the 3rd: Speakers were not speaking, but their dice were. Six hits, a walk and 5 runs and chased away Wright to close the gap to 7-5. 4th inning: Speakers aren’t done. They get 3 back-to-back singles followed by a big old blast from Betts. That grand slam gives the Speakers a 9-7 lead and the Stars are fuming.

Top of the 5th inning: Stars get a two-run HR from Diaz to tie the game.

Top of 7th: Stars lead off with a HR by Carpenter for a 1 run lead. After singles by Pedroia and Inciarte, Yosmany Tomas pinch hits a 3-run blast following a pitching change. Stars add 2 more runs in the 8th on a 2-run HR by Pedroia.

Speakers get a lead off HR in the 9th, but go down swinging to Chapman with 3 straight K’s. Stars win wild one, 15-10.

Game 2 Arrieta vs Desclafani

Odor jumps on Desclafani in the 2nd with a 3-run HR. Stars get a 2-run shot from Ramos in the 5th to make it close.

Speakers go nuts in the 8th to score 4 runs on 4 hits, even with a HR turned back. Speakers win game 2, 7-2.

Game 3 Hellickson vs Lackey

Both teams are exhausted and the bats show it. Speakers score in the top of the 9th after a lead off double by Rizzo. Stars fail to answer.

Hellickson goes the complete game, only giving up 2 hits. Speakers win game 3, 1-0.

Game 4 Martinez Vs Finnegan

Stars get shelled in this one as both pitchers go the distance. Much different lines on the pitchers.

Speakers club the ball for 12 hits, 9 runs and 2 HRs. Stars only get 4 hits and a solo HR by Pedroia, scoring only 2 runs– both in the 9th inning, both meaningless. Speakers win game 4, 9-2.

Speakers win the series, 3-1.

Speakers vs. Eliminators

These two teams, who entered OOTL the same year, squared off in the Eliminators’ new Mechanicsburg ballpark Saturday afternoon.

Game 1 – After getting strafed in his Speakers’ debut, Bartolo Colon leaked just enough oil to pick up his second loss in as many starts. The Speakers were able to cover Colon’s allowing solos to Victor Martinez and Odubel Herrera. However, they couldn’t overcome back-to-back-to-back doubles (Josh Donaldson, Victor and Ian Desmond) in the 4th. Xander Bogaerts strokes a 2-out RBI single in the 8th to wrap up a 5-3 win that was nowhere near as close as the score indicates.

W – Kevin Gausman; L – Colon (0-2); S – Addison Reed

Game 2 – The Speakers score as many in the top of the 1st as they did in Game 1. A pair of walks hurt Julio Teheran as Kris Bryant gaps a 2-out 2-run double and Ian Kinsler follows with an RBI single.

Kinsler singles home Manny Machado in the 5th with run #4. Jake Arrieta and Joe Blanton do the rest as the Speakers knot the series, 4-0.

W – Arrieta (2-0); L – Teheran; S – Blanton (1)

Game 3 – Rookie David Dahl starts the Speakers’ 2nd with a double. With 2 outs, Buster Posey lines a double of his own. Mookie Betts singles home Posey for an early 2-0 advantage.

The Eliminators cobble together Desmond’s single, Jonathon Lucroy’s perfect hit-and-run single (31) and Herrera’s RBI double to cut the lead in half, 2-1, in the 3rd. After Roughned Odor singles with 1 away in the 4th, Posey executes a hit-and-run single. Betts’ sac fly helps the Speakers regain their 2-run margin, 3-1.

The Eliminators enjoy base runners in every succeeding inning except the 9th, but can’t muster a clutch hit. Jeremy Hellickson and the Speaker pen preserve the 3-1 victory.

W – Hellickson (2-0); L – Felix Hernandez; S – Roberto Osuna (1)

Game 4 – Chris Archer’s first pitch of the season lands beyond the left-center field fence as Jean Segura puts the Eliminators up early. In the 3rd, Segura does it again — his second solo blast of the game.

The big blow comes in the 4th as new Eliminator Hanley Ramirez launches a 3-run homer. The Elims bat around in the 5th to plate 3 more for an 8-0 lead before the Speakers get their first hit.

The Speakers also bat around in the 5th, scoring 4 times, but it would hardly be enough. The Eliminators win 8-4 to split the series.

W – Jeff Samardzija; L – Archer (0-1)

Series Notes: The Eliminators out-homer the Speakers, 5-1. Although Colon coughs up 5 ER in 6.2 IP, he reduces his ERA to 10.80. Through 8 games, Arrieta (2-0, 1.10) and Hellickson (2-0, 0.57) are saving a staff whose overall ERA is 4.20.  Kinsler produces all 6 of his hits in this series. Herrera goes 4-9 with a double, HR and 4 walks — all from the 9 hole.

Shartlesville Browns vs. Arrogant Bastards

The Browns faced off against the Arrogant Bastards this past Saturday:

Game 1: Rodon v Maeda. The AB’s scratched two unearned runs across on the top of the 1st after Piscotty reached on an E3 and Stanton doubled to set up 2nd & 3rd with 1 down. A Gattis sac fly and a Saladino RBI single gave the Bastards all the runs they would need. The Sharts managed just 3 hits in the game (doubles for Turner, K. Seager & Perez) as Maeda, Britton and Jansen combined for the shutout. Bastards 4/9/0 Browns 0/3/2.

Game 2: Tillman v Scherzer. This game was punch – counter punch. The Bastards got a solo shot from Longoria in the top of 2nd followed by a C. Seager lead off shot in the bottom. Panik, Trout and Gardner went 2B, 2B, 1B to lead off the top of the 3rd and push the lead to 3-1. But the Sharts took a 4-3 lead in the bottom paced by a Dozier 2 run homer. Two unearned runs to the Browns in the 4th made it 6-3 but once again the AB’s kept punching. Trout led off the 5th with a walk followed by doubles from Gardener and Big Papi to make it 6-5. In the Sharts half of the 5th a 2 run dinger from Abreu made it 8-5. which ended up being enough to win. Browns 8/12/1 Bastards 6/10/1.

Game 3: Cueto v Hamels. This game was the opposite of game 2. The Browns opened the scoring with back-to-back doubles from Miggy and Sean Rodriguez in the 3rd. The Bastards tied it up at 1 when Longoria led off the 5th with a double and was sent home by a Gonzalez RBI single. Jansen came in and got an inning ending double play in the 6th and struck out the side in the 7th and things looked no easier for the Browns when Britton entered in the 8th and promptly went 1-2-3. He stayed in to start the 9th with the score still locked at 1. Brandon Guyer managed a lead off walk and moved to 2nd on a fielder’s choice. Then the Browns got insanely lucky: an 11 to Dozier followed by a 66 to K. Seager were both turned from homers to doubles but were enough to take a 3-1 lead. No lead is safe with the Brown’s pen and a pinch-hit, lead off homer from Grandal made it 3-2 before Bush got a couple of fly outs. Out 27 was unconventional as Saladino pinch-hit and walked but was caught stealing to ending the game. For the second game of the series all Browns hits were doubles. Browns 3/4/0 Bastards 2/5/0.

Game 4: Hill v Santana. Another back-and-forth affair. A Hairpin 2 run homer opened the scoring in the 2nd but the AB’s came right back in the 3rd via a bases loaded ground out, followed by a 2 run double to make it 3-2. The Browns got 2 in the 4th and 3 in the 5th and ended up riding the bottom third of the order to a 3rd straight win. Browns 7/11/1 Bastards 4/7/0.

The Browns are now 9-3 and will play the Stars next weekend. We are looking for an opponent for the weekend of the 25th-26th.

Notes:

The Sharts slashed .231/.315/.431 needing 4 homers, 12 doubles and a triple to outlast some pretty awful pitching. The starters posted a 3.33 ERA but the pen worked to a 4.50 ERA surrendering 3 home runs in 8 IP.

The 3 wins in this series are one more than the Browns had over the AB’s all last year.

This is the 2nd time in Browns history that they have won 3 series in a row.

Shartlesville Browns vs. Lemonheads

Game 1: Tillman v Pomeranz. The Browns struck first with and RBI double from Dozier in the 1st and pushed the lead to 2-0 with a solo shot in the 3rd from Sean Rodriguez. The Lemonheads would cut the lead to 2-1 with a Martinez RBI single in the bottom of the 3rd and that remained the score until the top of the 8th. The Sharts opened the inning with 3 straight singles from Maybin, K. Seager and C. Seager followed by a bases clearing 3B from Dozier. He then came in to score on a Sac Fly from Miggy to make it 6-1 which would be the final score. Tillman got the win and Montgomery worked 3 innings for the save. Browns 6/8/1 Lemonheads 1/9/1

Game 2: Cueto v Odorizzi. The Browns Slugged their way to a win behind a 7 run first inning including the first of two Salvy Perez bombs in the game. The Browns had 5 doubles and 3 HR’s in and 11-3 win. Cueto got the win and Odorizzi took the loss. Browns 11/14/2 Lemonheads 3/8/1

Game 3: Hill vs Conley. Shartlesville was in control the whole way as they used 5 more RBI (and a HR) from Dozier and a solid start from Hill to lock down their first ever 6 game win streak. Browns 8/8/1 Lemonheads 2/6/3

Game 4: Hammel v Straily. This was the craziest game of the series. The Lemonheads struck first with a 2-run 3B from Bradley in the 2nd. The Sharts hit the front with an Abreu solo shot in the 2nd and a 3 run 3rd that included 2 doubles, a homer and a triple. But the Lemonheads returned fire in the a 4th inning that saw them send 11 men to the plate. Martinez led off with a double but Hammel got the next two batters out before the flood gates opened. The next 6 batters each rapped 2-out singles off Hammel and when Tony Watson came into to try to stop the bleeding Martinez also singled for his 2nd hit of the inning. Watson got Lamb to ground out but the Heads now led 8-4. The lead was 9-4 entering the bottom of the 5th when the Browns cut it to 9-7 using a C. Seager 2-run HR and a Perez RBI single. The Heads got more 2-out magic in the top of the 7th as Belt doubled, Realmuto singled followed by a Blackmon 3-bagger. He waltzed into score on a wild pitch to make it 12-7. But the fireworks weren’t over! In the browns 7th C. Seager singled and walks to Abreu and Hairpin loaded the bases for Miggy who worked a walk to drive a run in. A Perez 6-4-3 scored another run followed by a 2-run HR from Turner to make it 12-11 after 7 full. Both teams had multiple chances to add more over the next two innings but neither scored and that was the final Lemonheads 12/20/0 Browns 11/14/0.

Notes:

The Brown slashed .308/.377/.636 in the series with 10 HR, 11 2B, 2 3B and 16 walks.
There was a gun show in the Browns’ usually suspect OF as Hairpin (RF) threw out 2 runners at home and Turner (CF) and Fowler (LF) also each had one for a total of 4 in the series. The infield also turned 4 double plays, all to end innings.
Dozier was the star of the Series for the Browns going 7-17 and driving in 9 runs. Perez wasn’t too far behind going 5-8 while driving in 5 in 2 games.
The Browns 6 game win streak from Game 2 to game 7 was the longest in club history.

The Browns are looking to play during the day either next Saturday or Sunday and can play either home or away.
