I don’t really do write ups much but this one got messy. John and I hooked up yesterday for a morning series, a break for lunch and finished up w/ a series in the afternoon.
Game 1 – 12-2 AB’s Stanton, Healy, Castro and Sanchez (2) hit HR’s and Sanchez drives in 5 as Lynn tosses a complete game. A -13 gift HR loses the shutout for Lynn in 9th.
Game 2 – 6-3 AB’s series gets weird in the 8th as Sanchez and Mauer run each other over trying for a foul ball. Mauer has to leave the game and Sanchez is out for 3 games.
Game 3 – Bees 3-2 Stanton HR in 1st is countered by an Olson 2 run bomb in bottom half. Mauer drives in a run in 2nd. But in the 5th Mauer runs over Grandal on another foul pop. Mauer leaves game and Grandal is out for 1 game. The AB’s now have no catchers for game 3 or the first game of next series. Kevin Pillar raises his hand to volunteer to throw the gear on. Cano knocks in go ahead run in 7th for Bees as the AB’s kick up a fuss in 9th with 2 outs and a man on 1st they hit and run w/ Gardner who gets in the 2nd column but rolls a single and Andrus grounds out to end it.
Game 4 – Bees win 3-2 Manager Steve implores an old softball strategy as Joe Mauer knows how to catch but rather than downgrade two positions he leaves Mauer at 1st and Ryon Healy is the next man up to catch. Zunino HR in 3rd is countered by 2 solo’s from Turner and Ozuna in 7th. Jansen comes on in 9th but yields a 44-0 single to Upton who steals 2nd then Cano doubles Upton in and scores on a wild throw by Jansen.
Game 5 – AB’s 3-1 Ozuna (2) and Gardner drive in the runs as Lance Lynn goes 6 innings for his 2nd win of the day. Grandal survives the entire game at catcher.
Game 6 – AB’s 2-0 as Mad Max hurls a CG gem (helped by John’s rolling ice cubes). Trout scores both runs after reaching on 2 errors. Scores a run on another error and the other on a Stanton double. Sanchez survives the entire game behind the dish.
The Bees only get 26 hits on the day. But the cheesesteaks at Mother’s Subs were good and so was the company.
The AB’s are now 9-6 on the young season with no games scheduled this weekend.
