Asian Tsunamis at Speakers

Game 1 – The Tsunamis start fast against David Price. Ryan Zimmerman doubles and Xander Bogaerts reaches on Yoenis Cespedes’ third error of the season. With 1st & 3rd and no outs, Price whiffs Ryan Raburn, prevents a Franklin Gutierrez walk before a harmless pop to short, and then Ks Miguel Cabrera to end an eventful top of the 1st.

Same situation in the bottom half: 1st & 3rd, no outs. Jordan Zimmermann strikes out Cespedes and gets Kris Bryant to pop to 2nd. Carlos Gonzalez finds Raburn (OF-1) in center on an error re-roll, which results in an RBI single and E8.

In the 5th, a pair of one-out singles chase Zimmermann. Bryant reaches on a Zimmerman error to load the bases. Gonzalez lofts a fly to Jose Bautista in right, which proves deep enough to score Buster Posey.

Following Zimmerman’s double to lead off the game, Price allows no base runner past 1st base. Bogaerts’ 9th inning single (55-7) with 1 out is the only other Tsunami hit. Price strikes out both Raburn and Gutierrez to preserve the complete game 2-hitter, 2-0.

W – Price (5-4, 3rd shutout); L – Zimmermann

Game 2 – The Tsunamis threaten in the 1st inning again. Chris Archer whiffs both Cabrera and Bautista. In back-to-back ABs, Bogaerts finds his prized 55-7. Jung Ho Kang appears to leave the yard, but Archer rolls 16 for a 2-out double. To add insult to injury, Javier Baez relays a strike to nail Bogaerts at the plate to end the inning.

Clayton Kershaw retires the first two Speakers, but then allows consecutive singles to Posey (55-7), Baez and Mookie Betts (12-Fielding 3). Chris Young makes Kershaw pay with a 3-run shot (4) and early 4-0 lead.

Aided by a Khris Davis error, 4 more singles and Posey’s 2-run double, the Speakers score 4 in the 2nd, too. Betts and Young strike for back-to-back 2-out doubles in the 4th for a commanding 9-0 lead.

Pitching a neat 4-hit shutout through 8, Archer finally falters in the 9th. With 2 on and 2 out, Prince Fielder strokes a 2-run double, his first hit as a Tsunami! Archer Ks Randall Grichuk to close out the 9-2 complete game. Young (3-4, D, HR, 5 RBI, R) leads the 15-hit attack.

W – Archer (6-3); L – Kershaw

Game 3 – Wei-Yin Chen and Matt Harvey keep the opposing offenses at bay. The Tsunamis load the sacks in the 2nd with 2 away, but Dee Gordon strikes out to end the threat.

With 2 outs in the 4th, Khris Davis krushes a solo home run to give the Tsunamis their first lead of the series. With 2 outs in the bottom half, Young matches that solo power with his 5th HR of the season.

Speakers threaten in the 5th, but Kike Hernandez flies to center with 2 on and 2 outs. Cespedes pinch hits for Kike in the 7th and lifts a high fly that looks like it could go out; however, Hector Rondon, just into the game, knocks it back to a double (+33).

We remain tied 1-1 until the 13th inning. After Kinsler files to left, Rajai Davis triples. Erik Goeddel comes on to face Cespedes, who rolls a 9 against a 19: pop up to 2nd base for the 2nd out. Anthony Rizzo goes deep, which Goeddel (+51) turns into a walk off RBI single.

W – Darren O’Day (1-1); L – Brad Ziegler

Tsunamis score in just two of 31 innings (3 total runs). Speakers out-hit the Tsunamis 29-15. Speakers finish 6-4 against the Asian Tsunamis during the regular season.
