Eliminators at Shartlesville Browns

Game 1: Hill v Gausman. The Browns get all their offense in the first 3 innings, but it would be enough. They score 4 in the first with homers from Dozier and Abreu, add two in the 2nd with solo shots from Perez and Seager and sore a 7th run on a Maybin RBI double in the 3rd. The Eliminators had 9 hits but only managed 2 runs off Hill and 2 relievers. Browns 7/10/0 Eliminators 2/9/0

Game 2: Tanaka v Hernandez. The Elims jump on the board first when Herrrera singles to lead off the game, steals 2nd, moves to 3rd on a FC and scores on a Freeman Sac Fly. The Sharts sent 9 men to the plate while scoring 4 runs in the 3rd inning with a little help from a Hernandez error. A Lucroy RBI single in the top of the 4th cut the lead to 4-2 and the Elims tied it up in the 6th when Freeman led off with a double and Donaldson homered to chase Tanaka. The Browns loaded the bases in the 7th, but pinch hitter Dexter Fowler K’d to keep it tied. It stayed tied until the bottom of the 10th when Ramirez led off with a double, moved to 3rd on a FC and scored on Fowler’s single to win it for Shartlesville. Browns 5/9/1 Eliminators 4/6/1

Game 3: Lester v Sale. Once again the Eliminators struck first as Segura reached via a 2-base E3 leading off the game. He came in to score on an E9 in the next at bat as the Elims got a run without a hit in the 1st. A Calhoun second column homer tied it at 1 in the bottom of the 3rd and the Browns pushed in front with an unearned run of their own in the 4th. The Elims got their first hit off Lester in the 5th when former Brown HanRam hit a solo shot to tie it up at 2. But the Browns went right back in front 3-2 in the bottom of the 5th when Sean Rodriguez touched ‘em all. Dozier would add an insurance solo homer in the 8th and Donnie Hart and Brad Ziegler worked perfect 8th and 9th to secure the sweep for the Sharts. Browns 4/8/2 Eliminators 2/1/1

Notes:
The Browns may have used up all the offense left in our dice for the whole season slashing .273/.324/.566 for the series.
For the first time in Browns History we led off all 3 games of a series with a hit. Although only 1 scored.
The Browns are now 10-15 in games started by a LHP, 27-23 in games started by a RHP, 2-3 in extras and 11-14 in 1-run games. 4 of the Sharts 5 extra inning games have come against the Eliminators.

The Browns are currently scheduled to take on the Stars on 10/15 and the Bees on 10/22 but will look to potentially play on Saturday the 14th as well.

Speakers at Shooting Stars II

Today’s holiday allowed for a late Sunday series near Lewisberry, hosted by Manager Kevin and bench coach Tammy. Harley and Snoopy provided the Speakers with a much-needed dog fix.

Game 1 – The two Jakes, Arrieta and deGrom hold serve through 5. Ender Inciarte gets nailed at the plate following a 2-out Ryan Schimpf double in the 3rd.

With the top of the order in the 6th, the Speakers string together an 8, 9 & 10 plus a sac fly by Yoenis Cespedes to chase deGrom. Tyler Thornburg gets Manny Machado to pop up for the 2nd out. Then Anthony Rizzo laces a triple into the corner to cap the 3-run inning.

Wilson Ramos’ 2-out RBI single (55-7) scores Matt Carpenter, who doubled with 2 away in the bottom half. After Aledmys Diaz walks to start the bottom of the 7th, Brad Hand takes over.

Pinch hitter Yasmani Tomas singles (8) to put the tying runs on base. Rabbits Eduardo Nunez and Jarrod Dyson pinch run. Francisco Cervelli pinch hits for Inciarte. Roberto Osuna whiffs Cervelli, gets Jonathon Villar on a grounder to short, and — with runners at 2nd and 3rd, strikes out Schimpf to snuff the threat.

The Stars bring the tying run to the plate in each of the last 2 innings, but fail to get the clutch hit. Speakers win, 3-1.

W – Arrieta (8-3); L – deGrom; S – Joe Blanton (4)

Game 2 – Both Carlos Martinez and Clayton Kershaw wriggle out of early trouble. In the 4th, Cespedes walks with 1 out. Machado doubles into the gap as Cespedes rolls into 3rd. Kershaw then uncorks his 2nd wild pitch of the game to break the scoreless tie.

Kris Bryant doubles home Machado. With 2 away, Andrelton Simmons triples in Bryant. Villar throws a Buster Posey grounder into the stands as Simmons scores the 4th run of the inning. (He embarrassed himself in front of Buster Posey.)

Chris Young adds an RBI double in the 7th and a 9th inning sac fly after Dansby Swanson’s RBI double to complete the 7-0 final. Martinez shuts down the Stars on 3 hits, his 2nd consecutive 3-hitter, going the distance.

W – Martinez (9-6); L – Kershaw

Game 3 – Through 5 innings, the Speakers record a Rizzo single and Posey walk. Rizzo’s tossed at the plate as Travis Jankowski misplays his single, but recovers to relay to Nunez.

The Stars, meanwhile, tally 5 doubles and a single through 5, yet don’t dent the plate. (Schimpf’s double turned back by Joe Ross (+24).

Carpenter walks to lead off the 6th. Ramos (4-4, 2-D) singles. After Dustin Pedroia flies out, Nunez singles (8) home Carpenter for a 1-0 lead — the Stars’ first lead of the series.

AJ Ramos takes over for John Lackey (6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K) in the 7th. With 1 out, Cespedes walks. Rizzo doubles (turned back HR +61). With runners at 2nd and 3rd, Machado singles in the hole (44-7) to plate both.

The Stars enjoy just one more base runner through the final 3 innings. Ramos singles (55-7) with 1 away in the 8th. Dyson pinch runs and swipes 2nd base, but Pedroia pops up and JJ Hardy strikes out. The Stars go quietly in the 9th to complete the sweep, 2-1.

W – Ross (4-2); L – Ramos; S – Jeremy Jeffress (6)

Speakers 3rd period notes: 8-1 record while slashing .191/.234/.311. The key is opponents have scored a total of 9 runs (.182/.239) for an ERA of 0.96.

Speakers’ pitching has allowed just 53 hits in 84 IP while the Speakers have only 57.

The Speakers have hit 4 homers so far this period to opponents’ 1 — a solo by the Browns’ Corey Seager in the 1st inning of the 2nd game of the period — the only Speakers’ loss.

Speakers at Unhinged Wahoos

Due to a lack of Major League baseball last Monday (10/2), the Unhinged Wahoos suggested an impromptu OOTL series.

Game 1 – Carlos Martinez blanks the Wahoos on 3 hits. Yoenis Cespedes’ 2nd inning 2-run single brings home the only runs of the game. Roberto Osuna records the final out with the bases juiced, striking out Carlos Gomez on a hit number. Martinez (+33) turns back Wil Myers’ potential game-tying 2-run homer with 2 outs in the 9th. Speakers win 2-0.

W – Martinez (8-6); L – Junior Guerra; S – Osuna (9)

Game 2 – Stephen Strasburg’s ugly 1st inning allows 3 runs on 2 hits, 2 walks, and 2 unearned on Brandon Crawford’s throwing error. That’s all David Price and Brad Hand would need. Price picks up where Martinez leaves off allowing 3 hits through 8 IP. Nolan Arenado’s RBI triple in the 4th scores the only Unhinged run. He’s stranded at 3rd with no outs following 2 pop ups and a liner back to Price. Speakers hang on, 3-1.

W – Price (4-4); L – Strasburg; S – Hand (3)

Game 3 – Mookie Betts slugs his team-leading 9th home run in the 3rd, good for 2 runs after Andrelton Simmons’ double. The Wahoos have 2 on with 1 out in the 6th when Edwin Diaz takes over for Jeremy Hellickson. Jose Altuve greets Diaz with a hard-hit RBI single (7). Diaz then retires Edwin Encarnacion and Arenado on deep fly outs.

With 2 away in the 7th, the Wahoos string together 3 more hits off Diaz, including Gomez’s RBI double (3-4, D, RBI, R). Adam Libertore strands runners at the corners by retiring Spanky Eaton on a hit number that became a fly out tailing away from Cespedes.

Altuve coaxes a lead off walk in the 8th. Encarnacion crushes a ball off Jeremy Jeffress that barely stays in the yard (+51 turn back). Betts wings the ball to Simmons who nails Altuve at the plate.

To break the 2-2 tie in the 9th, Anthony Rizzo doubles home Ian Kinsler, who singled with 2 outs. Jeffress sets down the Wahoos in order in the bottom half to earn his 5th win.

The Wahoos out-hit the Speakers 10-7, but come up short in the run column, 3-2. The Speakers out-score the Wahoos in the sweep, 8-3.

W – Jeffress (5-1); L – Justin Verlander
