The Plague vs. Shartlesville Browns

The Plague descended upon Shartlesville for a series on Sunday afternoon. Here’s how that went:
Game 1 featured production out of the new Browns as Marte went 3 for 6 with 2 runs scored and 2 doubles. Lucas Duda reached base 4 times going 2-3 with a walk & HBP to go along with his 2-run homer in his first AB as Brown. Hairpin also homered in the 2nd to put the Sharts up 3-0. The Browns lead was 6-4 going into the 8th before Kiermaier tripled to lead off and was plated by an Escobar single. Escobar then stole second and came around to tie it on a 2 out Brantley single. The Sharts got 2 in the top of the 11th as Marte leadoff with a double and was knocked in by a Seager two-bagger. Seager scored on an E6 and Hunter Strickland worked around two hits and a walk in the bottom half to secure the game for the Browns 8-6.
Game 2 was a much different affair as Fernandez and Strasburg both went the distance. Fernandez totally silenced the Brown’s bats allowing just a Duda 2B and a solo shot to Herrera while striking out 8 and walking none. The Plague got their runs thanks to RBI singles from Goldschmidt in the first and Pierzynski in the 4th as the Plague won 2-1. Strasburg was the tough luck loser as he walked none and struck out 10.
Game 3 saw the see-saw tilt back to runs and extra innings. The Plague jumped out to an early 4-0 lead as Goldschmidt homered in the 1st and 3rd. Hairpin made it 4-1 with a homer in the bottom of the 4th and the Browns nearly batted around to tie it in the 5th. Marte leadoff by reaching on an E6 before Kazmir hit Caleb Joseph. An Espinosa 2B made it 4-2 then a Burns sac fly made it 4-3. Momentum seemed to tip the Browns way as Iglesias singled to tie it with only 1 out and the middle of the Browns order coming up. Kazmir hit Seager but Hairpin and Morales choked and left it tied at 4. It stayed that way till the 11th when the Brown’s gambled and lost but leaving Strickland in for a 3rd inning. Kiermaier leadoff with a homer and Lindor added emphasis with a 2 run job to put the Plague up 7-4 to stay. Strickland blames the manager for sending him back out there.
Game 4 was played at a classic get-away day pace. Jamie Garcia baffled the Browns for a 2 Hit shutout, walking none and striking out 11. The Plague got sac fly RBI’s from Brantley in the 1st & 3rd and a Kiermaier solo homer in the 4th off Wacha who at least saved the pen by going 9. The Plague won 3-0.
The Browns fall to 11-17 and next travel to Lewisberry to take on the Lemonheads on Cinco De Mayo. After that an as yet to be scheduled tilt with the Speakers will wrap up the 1st for the boys from Shartlesville.

Lymebees vs. Lemonheads

Game 1; Arrieta vs Greinke; Yelich leads off the 1st with a double followed by a Hosmer double to score the first run. Lind grounds out and moves Hosmer to third and Upton hits a 2-run HR. This would be all of the scoring as both pitchers go all 9 innings. Bees win 3-0.
Game 2; Bumgarner vs Young; Bees get the first run in the 3rd. Bees get a 2-out double by Upton in the 6th to score Yelich, who had walked and stole 2nd base to lead off the inning, Bees would get the final run in the 9th without a hit. Bumgarner starts the 9th with a Pompey single and gets caught stealing. Hechavarria singles and Shaw singles to chase Bumgarner. Bees bring in Capps who gets Martinez and then walks Belt to load the bases, but gets Bradley to strike out to end the game. Bees win 3-0 again.
Game 3; Liriano vs McCullers; Bees get one run in the first on a Braun double. Bees break the game open in the 3rd with 5 runs and bat around. Bees add another run in the 4th. Lemonheads get their first run of the series in the 5th. McCullers gets the first two batters to strike out in the 7th, but then gives up 2 singles followed by a walk. McCullers gets pulled, but the Lemonheads still get another walk to score 1. An error on Siegrist, the pitcher, for another run, but that would be the end of the scoring as Bees win 7-3 and try for a sweep.
Game 4; Buchholz vs Syndergaard; Bees get a first inning run. Lemonheads tie the score in the 6th on a solo HR by Martinez. In the 8th, Martinez put the Lemonheads ahead with a double. Lemonheads win this one 2-1.
Lymebees record at 17-11 and looking to schedule the last two series sometime this weekend or next week.

Shartlesville Browns vs. Asian Tsunamis

The Tsunamis made their way to Shartlesville for the middle series of their marathon Saturday line up.

Game 1: Gallardo v Nola. The Tsunamis opened the series scoring in the 3rd by pushing 2 across against Gallardo courtesy of a Davis lead off walk followed by a Kang double. Kang came around to score on a Bogaerts single. Batting 3rd in place of suspended Bruce Hairpin, Kyle Seager homered to lead off the 4th against his old club to cut the lead to 2-1. The Sharts manufactured a run in the 5th to tie the score and it stayed that way all the way to the bottom of the 12th when Billy Burns delivered a 2-out, 2-run double to make it 4-2. Caesar Ramos worked a 1-2-3 bottom half to get the save and make a winner of Hunter Strickland.

Game 2 saw more of Seager trying to prove the Asians should never have let him go. He smacked a 2-run homer in the 1st off Jordan Zimmermann, who was the fruit of that trade for the Tsunamis. That staked Kershaw to a 2-0 lead. The Tsunamis scratched a run back on back-to-back doubles from Cabrera and Bautista in the bottom of the 2nd, but the Browns took over in the 4th. Perez doubled with two outs followed by a Herrera walk and a Segura RBI single setting the stage for Jarrod Dyson. He reached the seats for a 3-run homer and a 6-1 Browns lead. Kershaw got by a Grandal solo homer in the 8th to notch his 3rd CG of the year and improve to 3-3.

Game 3 and once again the Tsunamis scored first as Joey Bats drove Grichuk in after he doubled in the 3rd off Strasburg. They added another run in the 3rd to lead 2-0 before the Sharts bats got busy in the 4th off Cueto. It started again with a Seager leadoff HR followed quickly by a Morales dinger. A Phillips single and Caleb Joseph double chased Cueto after just 3 innings pitched and with no outs in the 4th. The Browns pushed 2 more runs across in the inning to lead 4-2. Two more solo homers from Morales in the 5th and 8th allowed the Browns to withstand single runs from the Tsnumais in the 6th and 7th off Strasburg, who still ended up with the win. Strasburg hit Kang in the 3rd, 5th and 7th but none of them were intentional. Tony Watson closed things out for his 2nd save.

Game 4 was a classic getaway day affair, played at a very brisk pace. It was scoreless after 5 full innings before the Asians got all the runs they would need on a Gutierrez 2-run job off Wacha. Adam Warren allowed an unearned run in the bottom of the 5th, but the Tsunamis pen locked things down and only allowed a hit in 3.2 IP of relief to make Warren a winner. Rondon got the last 4 outs to earn the save and pull the Tsunamis back to .500 (12-12) before they headed off to face the Eliminators. The Browns fell to 10-14.

Notes: The Browns hit .219 for the series but plated 10 runs on 7 homers. Seager hit .313 out of the #3 hole usually held by Harper and pushed his season stats to .281-8-12 in 23 games. Next up for the Browns is the Lemonheads on Thursday.

Asian Tsunamis vs. Lymebees

Game 1; Gonzalez vs Arrieta; Tsunamis get 3 runs in the top of the 1st with Hundley hitting a 2-run triple and Grichuk with a run-scoring double. Gonzalez goes 6 1/3 innings and gives up 3 hits and the bullpen shuts down the Bees as Tsunamis win 3-0.
Game 2; Cueto vs Bumgarner; Bees score 2 runs in the 3rd and 3 runs in the 4th with Beltre getting a 2-run HR and M. Gonzalez hitting a solo HR.  Tsunamis get solo HRs by Bautista and Duda in the 5th. Tusnamis get an unearned run in the 6th with 0 hits. Bees get 1 run in the 7th without any hits and Bees go on to win 6-3.
Game 3; Hendricks vs Zimmermann; Tsunamis get 2 runs in the 1st, 2 runs in the 6th and 3 runs in the 7th as Zimmermann pitches a complete game 1-hitter for a 7-0 Tsunamis win.
Game 4; Syndergaard vs Pomeranz; Bees score 2 runs in the 1st. Tsunamis get 1 run in the 1st, 2 runs in the 2nd,1 run in the 3rd on a Hundley solo HR and 2 runs in 4th. Bees get a solo HR by Braun in the 6th and take the lead in the 7th with 4 more runs to lead 7-6. Tsunamis tie the game in the 9th on 2 errors, HBP and fielders choice. In the 10th with 1 out and bases loaded, Tsunamis would get the winning run home on a Wild Pitch for an 8-7 Tsunamis win.

Asian Tsunamis vs. Arrogant Bastards

Game 1
Hamels v Warren…AT would open the scoring in the 3rd on a Grandal solo HR & Raburn 2 run HR to get enough runs for Warren who would go on for a CG win.  Panik hit a solo HR in the 6th (Ginger Jesus had one turned back later that inning) for the AB’s only run.  Cabrera hit a solo HR in the 7th.  Brach came on in the bottom of the 8th to get worked over for a 4 spot….2 run HR by Valencia and then back to back jacks by Espinosa and Ramos.  Final score 8-1 as the AB’s manage just their first run in 21 innnings.
Game 2
Scherzer v Cueto.  Cueto woul again go the distance as the AB’s up their scoring prowess to 1 run in 30 innings of play as they drop this game 3-0.  Joey Bats clubs a 2 run jack in the 2nd and Valencia adds a solo in the 5th to complete the scoring.  Both teams finish the first 2 games a combined 1 for 25 with RISP.  So clutch.
Game 3
Miller v Nola.  Trout ends the draught w/ a lead off HR to start the bottom of the 1st for the AB’s.  TS bounces back in the 3rd w/ successive RBI singles by Cabrera, Bogaerts, and Hundley to push their lead to 3-1.  The AB’s answer in the 4th w/ a pair of solo HR’s from Big Papi and Forsythe.  The game would remain 3-3 until the bottom of the 9th when Martin reached on a 2 out error, was replaced by Swihart, who scored on H&R double by Forsythe for the walk off win.  Thornton picked up the win (His FOURTH of the season!) while Hendricks took the loss.
Game 4
Salazar v Zimmerman.  The game was scoreless until the bottom of the 5th when the AB’s put together a crooked number.  Papi doubled, Forsythe singled him in, Gardner got a H&R single, stole 2nd, Russell grounded into an E6 scoring Andrus who ran for Forsythe and then Trout hit a Sac Fly to LF plating Gardner.  Cabrera hit a solo HR in the 6th and then drove in Espinosa (pinch running for a plucked Duda) to cut the lead to 3-2.  Thornton came on in the 9th to get the last out and pick up a save and a series split for the AB’s.

Game Notes
Not much to say AB’s went 4 for 26 w/ RISP while the AT’s went 4 for 25.  AT’s did manage 9 HR’s but 6 came in game 1.
AB’s upped their team average for the year from .196 all the way up to .197
With the Stars and Bees left to play the AB’s are currently at 16-12 and will probably try to play a series next week – right now Wednesday looks like the best day but we shall see.
