Unhinged Wahoos vs. Shartlesville Browns

Today the Wahoos came to Shartlesville to take on the Browns and runs and hits were at a premium.

Game 1: Paxton v Strasburg. The Wahoos threatened first when they loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the 4th. But Paxton struck out Arenado and Myers before getting Ichiro to pop up to the catcher to end the threat. The Browns got all the game’s runs in the 7th when Cabrera rapped a 1-out single followed by a Hairpin 2-run homer. Paxton went the distance to earn the shutout despite the Wahoos mounting a charge in the 9th. With two outs Ichiro walked and Gomez singled to bring the go-ahead run to the plate. Jose Abreu smacked a 2-out homer in the 6th to push the lead to 2-0 while Rodon was doing his best Paxton impression by keeping the Wahoos off the board. The Browns went in search of insurance runs in the home half of the 8th loading the bases with 1 out. Cameron Maybin made it 3-0 with a Sac Fly to center. Rodon worked a 1-2-3 9th to put his signature on a 3-hit shut out featuring 14 K’s. Browns 3/8/0 Wahoos 0/3/0

Game 3: Tillman v Verlander. This time the Wahoos got on the board first with a big 3rd inning. Arenado lead off with a walk followed by a Meyers single. Marte plated one with a double followed by a K to Conforto. Run #2 came in on a Crawford ground out and Perez doubled to make it 3-0. Meanwhile Verlander was perfect through 4 1/3 until K. Seager singled, but was promptly erased on an Abreu 4-6-3. The Wahoos tacked on 2 more runs in the 6th as Encarnacion lead off with a walk, Arenado singled and they came into to score on a Myers double. That chased Tillman at 5-0. Sean Rodriguez hit a solo shot in 7th and the Sharts looked poised to take the lead in the 8th. Kyle Seager singled and Abreu and Hairpin walked to load the bases with none out. Blevins came in and K’d Cabrera and Perez. Guyer pinch hit for Turner and was plunked force a run in and make it 5-2 before Rodriguez flew out to strand 3. It ended 5-3 after K. Seager singled in Dozier in the 9th. Wahoos 5/6/0 Browns 3/6/2

Game 4: Montgomery v Kluber. In the Top of the 6th the Salvy Perez lead off with a double followed by a Fowler walk. Kyle Seager drove in Perez with double and Fowler came into score on a C. Seager Sac Fly. This time it was Montgomery’s turn to flirt with a no-no. The spot starter retired the first 16 in a row before issuing a walk to Crawford. In the 7th the Wahoos got their first hit, and cut the lead to 2-1 with an Encarnacion homer. The Browns got that run right back in the top of the 8th on a Dozier RBI single. In the 8th the Wahoos threatened again getting 2nd and 3rd with two down but couldn’t get the last big hit. Matt Bush relieved Montgomery in the 9th and allowed a 2-out single to Myers, but hi was promptly picked off 1st to end the game. Browns 3/6/0 Wahoos 1/4/0

Notes: Next up for the Browns is a Double Header 3-Day weekend with a series on Saturday vs the Speakers and on Monday vs the Lymebees

The Browns slashed .210/.288/.379 and hit just .125 with RISP
Kyle Seager was the offensive MVP going 7-15 with 2 doubles, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI’s.

Thanks to the two shutouts the Browns ERA was 1.74 for the series.

The Browns top 2 picks in this years draft, Cabrera and Turner, have slashed .180/.207/.239 through 20 games. That is not good in case you were wondering.

Unhinged Wahoos at Arrogant Bastards

I apologize but my AB’s insider has been on vacation and this will be brief….

Wahoos
Game 1
Bauer v Salazar….AB’s jump on Wahoos in the 1st and 3rd by rolling 8 after 8 after 8 to take a 6-1 lead.  An Arenado HR cuts the lead to 6-4 in the 6th, but Salazar notches a win w/ a Davis save as Bauer gets the L.  7-4.
Game 2
Norris v Miller…Marte has a partay w/ an RBI double in the 2nd.  Stanton jacks a solo HR in the 4th and Andrus doubles home Pillar in the 5th for a 2-1 AB’s lead.  Former Wahoo Abreu ties it w/ a HR in the 6th.  Blanco hits a 2nd column solo in the 7th to give the Wahoos the lead and Abreu HR’s again in the 8th.  The AB’s load the bases w/ 2 outs in the 9th for Trout but Miller K’s him to shut the door.  Norris gets the W and Miller takes the L.
Game 3
Strasburg v Karns….Two solo HR’s by Stanton are all that is needed as the AB’s take the series w/ a 2-0 victory.  Davis earned another save while Strasburg got the L.  Zobrist and Gomez killed each other in the bottom of the 5th inning.

Wahoo’s went 5 for 27 w/ RISP while the AB’s went 6 for 27.  Game 1 was extremely bizarre but so long ago to remember.

Speakers at Unhinged Wahoos

Game 1 – The first 3 Speakers hit safely in the 3rd as Andrelton Simmons doubles home a pair. Chris Archer’s version of “shutdown inning” includes retiring the first 2 Wahoos, and then coughing up 5 straight hits with a HBP and Nolan Arenado 3-run bomb mixed in.

While the Speakers fold, the Wahoos never look back, tacking on a Chris “Stiff” Colabello 2-run double and Jose Abreu RBI single in the 7th. Wahoos handily win their first of the season against the Speakers, 7-3.

W – Daniel Norris (CG); L – Archer (3-2)

Game 2- The Speakers bat around in the 2nd. Although red-hot Rajai Davis loses a homer, the Speakers score 4 on 4 hits. Carlos Martinez promptly surrenders another Colabello 2-run double and Abreu RBI single with 2 away in the 3rd.

This time the Speakers storm back to match those tallies as Anthony Rizzo detonates for a 3-run homer, his 9th and the Speakers’ only long ball of the series, to reduce long time Speaker, Justin Verlander. “Spanky” Eaton singles home an unearned run in the bottom half to keep it close, 7-4.

Verlander steals a homer from former teammate Carlos Gonzalez in the 6th, and he doesn’t score. Arenado greets Joe Blanton with a 55-7 2-out RBI single in the 7th to close the gap to 7-5.

The Wahoos threaten in the 8th with 2-on and 1-away, but Roberto Osuna wriggles out of the jam. Rizzo starts the top of the 9th with a triple, yet doesn’t score. Finally, Jeurys Familia retires the top of the Wahoos’ lineup in order in the 9th for his 6th save, 7-5.

W – Martinez (6-0); L – Verlander; S – Familia (6)

Game 3 – The Speakers greet Rasiel Iglesias with 2 2-out RBI singles in the 1st, thanks to Gonzalez and Mookie Betts. A pair of doubles by Travis d’Arnaud and Ben Zobrist get the Wahoos on the board in the 3rd, 2-1.

The Speakers answer in the 4th. Kyle Schwarber doubles. With 2-away, Rizzo singles him in and Manny Machado coaxes a walk, setting up Buster Posey’s RBI single.

While the Speakers squander 3 more in scoring position, including Eaton nailing Stephen Vogt at the plate in the 6th, the Wahoos chip away. Abreu crosses the plate after a 2-out double in the bottom of the 6th. Newly acquired Starling Marte singles him home.

In the bottom of the 8th, Colabello greets Tony Sipp with a 1-out solo shot. Fortunately for Sipp, neither team reaches base thereafter. Sipp retires the last 5 Wahoos in order to preserve the 4-3 squeaker for the Speakers.

W – Jesse Hahn (3-2); L – Iglesias; S – Sipp (2)
