Speakers at Arrogant Bastards

Game 1 – Danny Salazar and three AB relievers shut down the Speakers on 3 hits. Buster Posey spoils the shutout with a 1-out homer (8) in the 9th.

Jake Arrieta suffers his first loss in a Speakers uniform as the ABs post candlesticks in each of the first 3 innings: each a 2-out solo home run! Mike Trout, Blake Swihart and Adrian Gonzalez turn the trick. An unearned run in the 8th seals the 4-1 final.

W – Salazar; L – Arrieta (2-1)

Game 2 – Cole Hamels is victimized by two AB errors and his own wild pitch in the 1st while the Speakers plate a pair of unearned runs. Hamels and David Price hang zeroes until the 7th.

Brad Brach walks Anthony Rizzo with 1 away. Posey grounds to 3rd with Rizzo on the move. With 2 outs, Manny Machado lines a pinch RBI single (15-11 against an 18) for a 3-0 lead.

Price makes those scarce runs stand up (3-0 final) by firing a 4-hit shutout with no walks and 8 Ks. However, the ABs strand a runner in scoring position in 4 different innings.

W – Price (9-5); L – Hamels

Game 3 – Luis Severino (in his last regular season start) and Nate Karns and friends continue the mound mastery. The teams combine for no runs and 5 hits through 8. No base runner for either side reaches 3rd.

With 1 out in the top of the 9th, Machado works his 4th walk of the game. Rajai Davis drives an RBI double into the gap to shatter the scoreless tie. Brach relieves Mark Melancon and promptly allows another RBI double to Andrelton Simmons.

Brach prevents further damage, but 2 runs seem huge in this series. Severino allows a 2-out single to Kevin Pillar, who pinch ran for David Ortiz in the 7th. As the tying run at the plate, Justin Turner Ks to end the game, 2-0.

W – Severino (4-1); L – Melancon

The Speakers outscore the ABs in the series, 6-4. Each team scores in only 4 of 27 potential innings. Earned runs in the series? Speakers 4, ABs 3. The ABs score theirs in the first 3 innings of the series (3 solos). The ABs haven’t plated an earned run in 23 frames or any run in their last 18. The ABs commit 2 errors, both in the 1st inning of Game 2 (Trout and Andrus), leading to 2 runs.

Tsunami’s
Game 1
Salazar v Warren….Trout doubles in a run in the 1st.  Russell SAC’s in a run in the 4th.  Agone goes yard in the 6th for a 3-0 AB’s lead.  Craig then says its time to hit and proceeds to score 5 runs in the 6th and 3 in the 7th.  Grichuk had a big 2-out 2-run double followed by a 2-run HR by Davis; and, Bogaerts had a double in each inning driving in 3 total.  Final was 8-4 w/ the win to Warren and loss to Melancon.
Game 2
Hamels v Zimmermann…Big Papi knocked in a run on a 2nd inning ground out; and then Andrus singled in Gardner (pinch running for Stanton) in the 9th for the games only runs as the AB’s won 2-0.  Hamels got the win and Davis picked up a save as the Nami’s had a RISP in the 7th, 8th, and 9th – 7th and 8th were lead off doubles. Starting the 8th Cedeno +24 turned back a potential game tying HR.   Zimmermann took the tough loss.
Game 3
Miller v Nola….this game was a war to win the series.  Paulsen doubled in 2 in the 2nd for a 2-0 lead.  In the 3rd Panik got a bases loaded single and then Papi BB’d to force a 2-2 tie.  In the 6th the AB’s got a 2 RBI double from Stanton to go up 4-2.  In the bottom of the 6th w/ 2 outs, Miller (+32) failed to pull back a Davis 2-run HR and the game was tied at 4-4.  In the top of the 7th Howell (+31) pulled back a Papi HR to keep the score knotted at 4-4.  In the 10th Stanton sent a bomb outta the yard to put the AB’s back in front 5-4.  W/ 2 outs in the bottom of the 10th, Hundley rolled a 11-0 to tie the game once again at 5-5 off a now beleaguered Wade Davis.  In the top of the 11th, Martin led off w/ a 10 single (I believe), then Gardner singled and up stepped Mike Trout who deposited a 3-run HR that Pomeranz (+21) could not pull back.  Jansen came on in the bottom of the 11th for a 3 batter save for Davis while Pomeranz took the loss.

AB’s went 6 for 32 w/ RISP while the Nami’s went 8 for 31….as both teams had their opportunities.

AB’s after 54 games are now 29-25 as the try to grind through the 2nd period.  They are looking to schedule next week v the Stars, Bees or the Eliminators.  Good luck the rest of the way everyone.

Unhinged Wahoos at Arrogant Bastards

I apologize but my AB’s insider has been on vacation and this will be brief….

Wahoos
Game 1
Bauer v Salazar….AB’s jump on Wahoos in the 1st and 3rd by rolling 8 after 8 after 8 to take a 6-1 lead.  An Arenado HR cuts the lead to 6-4 in the 6th, but Salazar notches a win w/ a Davis save as Bauer gets the L.  7-4.
Game 2
Norris v Miller…Marte has a partay w/ an RBI double in the 2nd.  Stanton jacks a solo HR in the 4th and Andrus doubles home Pillar in the 5th for a 2-1 AB’s lead.  Former Wahoo Abreu ties it w/ a HR in the 6th.  Blanco hits a 2nd column solo in the 7th to give the Wahoos the lead and Abreu HR’s again in the 8th.  The AB’s load the bases w/ 2 outs in the 9th for Trout but Miller K’s him to shut the door.  Norris gets the W and Miller takes the L.
Game 3
Strasburg v Karns….Two solo HR’s by Stanton are all that is needed as the AB’s take the series w/ a 2-0 victory.  Davis earned another save while Strasburg got the L.  Zobrist and Gomez killed each other in the bottom of the 5th inning.

Wahoo’s went 5 for 27 w/ RISP while the AB’s went 6 for 27.  Game 1 was extremely bizarre but so long ago to remember.
