Shartlesville Browns at The Plague

The Browns wrapped up their season at The Plague on Sunday.

Game 1: Tanaka v Darvish. The Browns opened the scoring in the 4th when Seager led off with a double and was knocked in on a Reddick single. The Browns went to the pen after 5 to bring in Montgomery despite Tanaka pitching well. Bregman greeted Monty with a leadoff dinger to tie it. In the top of the 7th Belt drew a leadoff walk and was pulled for Tomlinson as a pinch runner. Salvy Perez knocked him in with a double. Monty worked a 1-2-3 7th and Brad Ziegler retired all 6 batters he faced for the save. Montgomery got the win in relief. Browns 2/6/0 Plague 1/3/1

Game 2: Lester v Matz. Maybin legged out a 1-out triple in the 1st and came in to score on a single from Brandon Guyer. Sean Rodriguez led off the 2nd with a hommer to make it 2-0 but the Plague cut it to 2-1 with a Cain 2-out homer in the 3rd. Tomlinson worked a 2-out walk in the top of the 7th and Maybin plated him with his second triple of the game. With a 3-1 lead Lester gave up a hit and a walk to start the 6th so Matt Bush was summoned to douse the fire and go out of the 7th. But Bush gave up a 2-out triple in 8th so the sharts turned to Donnie Hart, who retied Goldschmidt (+7 vs LHP) to end the inning. The Browns padded the lead with back-to-back pinch hit doubles from Seager and Abreu in the top of the 9th. Hart (with only 2/3 of inning left in the season at this point) opened the 9th and also retired Prado (+14) and Lindor. Brad Zeigler got the last out to earn his 10th save, but the Browns decision to use Hart in this game would come at a heavy cost in game 3. Browns 4/11/0 Plague 1/6/3

Game 3: Montgomery v Duffy. The Browns brought Montgomery back on 1 day of rest after his relief stint in game 1, it was the first of many mistakes in this game by the Sharts. But that all came later. First, the Browns got an unearned run in the 1st, 2 runs in the 2nd and 3 unearned runs in the 3rd, including a Fowler HR, to stake Monty to a 6-0 lead and chase Duffy. In the 3rd the Plague loaded the bases with no outs on 2 singles and a walk. They then got a Sac Fly, a single and a triple to cut the lead to 6-4. Fowler led off the 6th and Tomlinson walked but then there was a rare-play rain delay. After the delay Dozier made it 7-4 with an RBI single. Montgomery gave up a leadoff homer to Pado in the 6th but got out of the inning still up 7-5. Bush and Strop kept the Plague off the board in the 7th and 8th but with Hart not available the Browns turned to Zeigler for the 3rd in the game in a row in the 9th. Lindor singled and Wieters got a 31 hitting-and- running to make it 1st and 3rd. Escobar pinch ran for Wieters and swiped 2nd before Buxton tied it up with a single of Cody Allen. Allen got the next 3 out with Buxton on 2nd after he also took 2nd. The Browns went 1-2-3 in the 10th. In the bottom half, Allen issued a 1-out walk and Tony Watson gave up a walk off 2-run jack to Lindor. Plague 9/11/3 Browns 7/7/0.

Browns finish up 47-43.

After making 37 errors in the first 36 games the Browns made just 28 in the last 54.

Full season stats and observations will be sent out later this week.
