Lemonheads at Arrogant Bastards

Game 1
Anderson v Karns.  AB’s get 1st and 3rd no outs in the 1st and bust a DP by Agone for a 1-0 lead. Former AB Walker jacks a solo shot in the 3rd to tie it. Russell Martin homers in the 4th for a 2-1 AB’s lead.  W/ 1 out in the 5th Fielder gets a gift (-15) BB and later scores on a 2-out Duffy single.  Game goes 12 where the Heads score 2 to win it 4-2 as Hechevarria hits a 2 run homer.   Winner Young; loser Melancon; save Lopez.
Game 2
Greinke v Hamels. LH get an RBI single from Shaw in the 1st. AB’s tie it in the 5th after a Russell double and an Owings error at 2nd on a RP (I think). Panik (who hit the ball) is thrown out at 3rd on the  scoring 2-6-5-4-5. Game goes to the 10th where the AB’s get a Swihart single and error on JD in left.  W/ Swihart at 2nd, Gardner tries to SAC and drops a 33 for 2 strikes.  W/ Gardner still SAC’ing he rolls a 33-0 (FUCKING AGAIN) for a good second column 6 – GOOD SAC!!!  Awesome.
Pillar does follow w/ an 8 single vs. a plus 20 pitcher to win the game. Win Davis; loss Greinke.
Game 3
Odorozzi v Scherzer.  AB’s get 2nd/3rd no outs then load the bases but get nothing in the 1st.  Trout hits a solo HR in the 3rd. Fielder knocks in Blackmon on a ground out to tie the game 1-1 in 4th.  In the 5th, Trout leads off w/ a BB, gets picked off, and tossed from the game.  Gardner BB’s and gets thrown out stealing (63 or higher)…whatever.  Peralta and Fielder hit back-to-back HR’s w/ 2 outs in the 6th. Heads win 3-1.  Odorozzi wins; save Lopez; loss Scherzer.

AB’s go 1 for 21 in the series w/ RISP. Heads went 3 for 14.
AB’s 23-22 at the midpoint.
Team is hitting .207 but a whole 4 points higher w/ RISP at .211.
No one wants any part of being clutch by knocking in runs when an opportunity arises.

Shartlesville Browns at Arrogant Bastards

Reeling from a tough 3 game plowing from The Plague the AB’s decided to get back on the bike w/ some changes as they hosted the Browns on Tuesday evening.  Tony was gracious enough to pick up delicious Mother’s Subs from their new location on 2nd & Maclay – if you haven’t tried them…your loss.  On to the rolling….

Game 1
Gallardo v Scherzer.  The AB’s would enjoy one of their ‘easiest’ games of the year as the SB’s only mustered about 3 hit numbers in a 6-1 dominant Max outing.  Max went the distance yielding only a Salvy solo HR in the 8th cruising to a 6-1 two hit, 14 K, no BB’s CG performance.  The AB’s pushed 3 across in the 2nd sending 8 men to the plate.  Gardner drove in Piscotty on a single, Russell had an RBI groundout plating Turner who had doubled; and then, Trout knocked in Gardner on a rare 2-out RBI single.  AB’s got two more in the 6th as Gardner, who BB’s, scored on a double by Russell and a butcher job by Odubel in LF.  Panik then had another 2-out RBI single to plate Russell.  The AB’s ended their scoring in the 8th on doubles by Trout and Stanton.

Game 2
Cueto v Miller.  Trout led the bottom of the first off w/ a solo HR.  The SB’s would tie it in the 4th on a 2-out RBI single by Danny plating Hairpin.  In the 5th the SB’s would take the lead on a 2 RBI single by Odubel that plated Salvy and Burns to go up 3-1.   Then in the middle of the 5th (night)….the sun came oat.  Russell reached on a F3 roll on a F2 fielding pitcher Cueto. Trout then BB’d.  Panik popped to 3rd and Stanton K’d for the 2nd out.  Then Agone hit an RP pop up that was lost in this mysterious sun in the middle of the night that fell in for an RBI single which plated Russell as Trout stopped at 3rd.  Piscotty then delivered a ringing double that scored both Trout and Agone and put the AB’s up to stay 4-3.  The Browns would threaten in the 7th getting their first two men on but Salvy was mysteriously picked off of 1st and Melancon & Thornton were able to get out of the jam.  Miller collected the win while Cueto went the distance in a tough loss.  Wade Davis notched a Save.  4-3 final.

Between games the Mothers Subs were consumed to the delight of Tony and Steve….rumors that they crossed arms are totally unfounded.

Game 3
Shields v Salazar.  The SB’s opened the scoring in the 2nd on another 2-out RBI single from Iglesias that plated Danny.  Addy Russell jacked a solo HR in the 3rd to tie the game at 1-1.  David Wright led off the 6th w/ a single, but Gardner (who has earned more playing time due to his ability to get on base) butchered the single allowing Captain America to circle the bases with a Little League HR.  (Just to note in the previous series w/ The Plague the AB’s scored a run on the EXACT same RP board result….you just can’t make this stuff up).  The AB’s would get a 6th inning 2-out double by Trout, a 7th inning 2-out double by Piscotty and a 9th inning 2-out triple by Stanton…..but not score another run and drop game three 2-1 as the Browns finally got their first franchise win vs. the AB’s.  Shields went 8 innings w/ 10 K’s and yielded only 4 hits to pick up the W.  Salazar took a tough loss and Albers pitched the 9th for the save.

SB’s went 3 for 12 with RISP….the least amount of opps for an AB’s opponent this year.  Tony dropped a ton of double numbers…just not for his batters.
AB’s went 7 for 32 with RISP…..5 for 17 in game one but 2 for 15 over the last two games.

AB’s are now 22-20 and may look to play next week sometime.

The Plague at Arrogant Bastards

Well it has taken me a while to put this series to words. I must admit, since my return to the league this one may have been the most frustrating one yet. Not much if anything went my way in this series and the frustrating thing is I didn’t roll all that bad in comparison to the previous 9 series. Anyway…

Game 1
Ramirez v Miller….The Plague jump out early in the 1st w/ back to back RBI doubles by Goldschmidt and Brantley for a 2-0 lead. They add a run in the 2nd on an Sac Fly by Span. The AB’s load the bases in the bottom of the 3rd w/ NO ONE out but only come away w/ a bases loaded BB by Gardner to plate Martin and cut the lead to 3-1. Agone hits a solo shot in the 6th to trim it to 3-2 but in the top of the 7th Goldschmidt gets a 2 out RBI single to plate Span to take a 4-2 lead. Trout leads off the bottom of the 7th w/ another solo HR to make it 4-3. A Plague sac fly RBI from Lawrie ends the scoring at 5-3 as Ramirez gets the win and Miller suffers the loss, Paps gets the save.
AB’s go 0 for 12 w/ RISP while the Plague go 4 for 9.
Game 2
Gibson v Hamels…Once again the Plague plate 2 first inning runs on a LeMahieu single and Goldschmidt single. Parra belts a 2 run HR in the 2nd to tie the score at 2-2. Gardner belts a solo HR in the 3rd to put the AB’s up 3-2. In the 4th the AB’s once again load the bases w/ NO ONE out as Gardner works yet another BB to make the score 4-2 and then Panik grounds a ball to 3rd for a force out and an RBI to make it 5-2. The AB’s would get no more that inning as they just can’t muster hits w/ RISP. The Plague get two back in the 5th on another LeMahieu RBI and a run scoring DP from Cain. In the 7th TP take the lead on a 2 out RBI double from Cain. In the bottom of the 7th Panik hits a solo HR to tie the score at 6-6. In the bottom of the 10th the AB’s get a lead off double from Big Papi as he is lifted for PR Pillar. The AB’s decide to SAC Bunt w/ Longo who drops a 13 for two strikes….the AB’s think for a second about taking the SAC Bunt off but decide to go w/ another attempt and Longo rolls a 66-1 for a bunt single rather than a walk off win. Up steps Agone but Longo gets picked off for out number one. Then Agone flys out to RF where Hunter rolls F2 (the best numbers for the defense on that board) giving Pillar a 50/50 shot to score….Hunter drops a 44 to complete the DP at the dish. The Plague get 3 in the top of the 10th on a Wieters RBI double followed by a TWO out double by Escobar and a TWO out single by Hamilton, and a TWO out single by LeMahieu. Manship wins, Davis loses and Sanchez saves it.
AB’s go 2 for 13 w/ RISP while the Plague go 6 for 14
Game 3
Estrada v Karns…Plague score on an RBI groundout by Goldschmidt in the 1st…AGAIN. In the 3rd the AB’s tie it on a Parra little league HR on a single and error to CF. The AB’s take the lead 2-1 on a Panik solo HR in the 6th. In the 9th the Plague’s Cain rolls an error number for C9 Martin and have 3 chances for it to be an error….Martin rolls a 64 of course for the E. One out later Lawrie hits a double to tie the game. A two out double by Brantley plates Goldschmidt in the 10th to complete the sweep. Smith wins, Jansen loses and Paps gets the save.
AB’s go 1 for 10 w/ RISP to finish the series 3 for 35 while the Plague cool off in game 3 going 1 for 12 w/ RISP but finish the series at 11 for 35 w/ RISP.

No luck for the AB’s – just no other way to put this kind of series. AB’s now 20-19 and reeling….may look to play next week – maybe Tuesday or Wednesday.

Shooting Stars II vs. Arrogant Bastards

Last Wednesday night the Stars invaded Linglestown to wrap up the 1st period for both teams.  This may be more brief than previous write ups.
Game 1
Salazar v Fiers.  HFP belts a 2-run HR two batters into the game for a SS 2-0 lead.  In the 3rd HFP butchers a Trout fly ball into a 4 base error.  Peralta hits a solo HR in the 5th to make it 3-1.  Agone leads off the 7th w/ a solo Jack which chases Fiers.  With 2 outs Martin hits another solo not turned back by Smith’s +52.  Game stays tied until the top of the 11th as Andrus gets a hit and goes to third on a 2 base error by Holt.  Andrus then scores the winning run on a wild pitch.  AB’s win 4-3 in 11.  Dyson wins it; Davis the save; Lowe w/ the loss.
Game 2
Hamels v Lynn.  AB’s jump to 3-0 lead in the 2nd on an Ortiz single, Swihart double, Parra 2-rbi single, Gardner single and Russell RBI single, but strand runners on 1st and 3rd w/ no one out.  In the bottom of the 6th the SS erupt for 6 runs.  Tex triples in 3 to tie it and then Carpenter homers to make it 5-3. Another run is added later. Swihart knocks in Andrus on a groundout in the 8th but Tex answers w/ a solo HR in the bottom half for a 7-4 SS win.  Lynn wins; Brach loses; Chafin gets save.
Game 3
deGrom v Karns.  This becomes a 15-3 laugher early as SS win.  Tex doubles in 2 in the 1st.  Parra doubles in Ginger Jesus to make it 2-1 in 2nd.  In the top of the 3rd living hell breaks loose.  W/ bases loaded and two outs, Karns is one out away from keeping the game 2-1.  SS then go BB, double to clear bases, BB, single, BB, single and single as they build a snowman, chase Karns and take a 10-2 lead.  In the bottom of the 3rd the AB’s get an RBI single from Papi and an RBi double from Swihart.  Dyson ends up coming in for the AB’s and goes 5.1 innings giving up 4 more runs before he ends as a 1.  Choo knocks in a run in the 7th to make it 14-3.  In the bottom half deGrom is lifted after the AB’s rally with a double by Panik, Trout reaches on an error and Agone BB’s.  Lowe comes on to get two huge outs on Turner and Ortiz to keep the 11 run lead.  Lowe escapes 2 more runners in the 8th, getting out of it again.  SS add a run in the 9th on a double by Choo to make it 15-3.  Chapman comes in for some work in the 9th for a 1-2-3 inning.  deGrom winner; Karns loser.
Game 4
Lackey v Scherzer.  Ginger Jesus hit a solo in 1st for a 1-0 lead.  Casali BB’s to start the 2nd; then on a Granderson 12, the AB’s roll a 56 F2 for Agone to turn a DP into a single.  Frazier later hits a triple for a 2-1 SS lead.  Same score in the 4th; with two outs Choo singles and Frazier rolls a 33-5 on a called hit-and-run, which becomes a single.  Escobar then flies out.  Game stays 2-1 until 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th. Ginger Jesus doubles (22-0) and Gardner comes in to PR.  Chapman comes on to face Papi but Ozuna PH’s and drops a 22-7 (his 1st hit of the season only facing LH pitchers…APBA ball high plusses…gorilla sounds) to score Gardner standing and tie the game at 2.  In the top of the 10th Parra greets Chapman w/ another 22-0 and 33-1 in the 2nd column for a HR that +42 Chapman failed to turn back.  AB’s win 3-2. Melancon winner; Chapman loser.
No notes right now…5th straight series split for AB’s ending 1st period at 20-16.  I’ll take it.
Manager Steve

Lymebees vs. Arrogant Bastards

Game 1; Hammel vs Arrieta; Bastards get 5 runs in the 2nd on 4 consecutive hits to start the inning and a Panik 2-run 2-out HR. Bees follow in the bottom of the 2nd with a leadoff double by Upton, 1-out single by Reddick to score 1, and 2-run HR by Valbuena. With 2 outs in the 5th, the Bees get a Hosmer walk. Lind doubles him in and Upton hits a 2-run HR for a 6-5 Bees lead. Bees get a leadoff HR by Reddick in the 6th and score another run in the inning. Arrieta gets thru the 8th and the Bees bullpen strands two in 9th for a save and a 8-5 come-from-behind win.

Game 2; Karns vs Gray; Bastards score 2 runs in the 1st on a Gonzalez HR. Bastards get 3 more runs in the 3rd on 4 extra base hits. Bastards add 4 more runs in the 4th. Bees get on the board with a lead off HR by Lind in the 9th as the Bastards get the complete game win at 9-1.

Game 3; McCullers vs Scherzer; Bastards get 1 run in the 3rd, 6 runs in the 4th, and a solo HR by Ortiz in the 7th as Scherzer goes the distance and gives up 1 single to Valbuena for an 8-0 Bastards win.

Game 4; Syndergaard vs Miller; Bastards draw first blood in the 5th and score 2 runs in the inning as Trout hits a triple. Bees get one run back in the 6th. With two outs in the 7th, Upton ties the game with a single and Cano follows with a 2-run HR. Bees hold on to win 4-2 and split the series.

Bees record at 19-13 and were lucky not to be swept.
John Ingiosi
I know John sent a write up but my writer has been contracted to do a write up for each series this season.  So here it is….

Game 1
Hammel v Arrieta…The AB’s attempt to go into total job mode and use Hammel’s only necessary start of the year to face Arrieta (it was either him or Greinke).  In the top of the 2nd the AB’s would bust out v Arrieta with a Turner double, Ortiz single, Swihart double, Pillar single, a SAC fly by Russell, and finish it off w/ a 2 run HR by Panik for a 5-0 lead.  It would not stay that way for long.  In the bottom of the frame Upton doubled, Reddick singled and Valbuena homered to make it 5-3.  In the 5th the Bees swarmed some more w/ a Hosmer 2 out walk, followed by a Lind double and an Upton 2 run jack for a 6-5 lead.  Reddick lead off the 6th w/ a HR and after a Norris walk he was doubled home by Polanco to push the lead to 8-5.  Arrieta settled in after the 2nd allowing just 2 singles.  The AB’s threatened off of Siegrist in the 9th with a single and an HBP to Pillar but Capps came on to get the final 2 outs.  Arrieta the win while Dyson picked up the loss.  Save Capps.
Game 2
Karns v Gray.  The AB’s would jump to 2-0 lead after Panik reached on a Cano error and two batters later Agone went yard.  Karns wiggled out of 2 BB trouble in the bottom of the 1st w/ back to back K’s.  In the 3rd the AB’s would get to Gray again as Andrus lead off w/ a double and scored on a Trout triple. Trout would score on a Turned double followed up by a Big Papi double to make the gam 5-0.  The good fortune would continue for the AB’s in the 4th as with one out Parra circled the bases on a 4 base error by Reddick.  Andrus and Panik then singled  and with two outs Agone singled in Andrus, Turner walked and then Papi singled in Panik and Agone to complete the 4 run (all unearned) inning and 9-0 AB’s lead.  Karns scattered 4 hits through 8 as he took the bump in the 9th looking for a shutout.  But that quickly dissolved as Lind lead off the 9th w/ a HR….Karns then struck out the side for the win while Gray suffered the loss.
Game 3
Scherzer v McCullers.  The AB’s ventured home after earning a split at the hornets’ nest and opened the scoring in the bottom of the 3rd as Russell doubled (HR turned back) in Gardner for a 1-0 lead.  In the 4th the AB’s would send 11 men to the plate.  After a Papi K to start the inning it would go something like this:  Martin singled and stole 2nd as a D18 on a failed hit and run, Parra then double him in, Gardner struck out for the 2nd out, Russell singled home Parra, Panik doubled (HR turned back) Russell home, Trout followed with an RBI single to score Panik, Agone singled, then Turner singled home Trout, and then Papi ended the scoring w/ another single to score Gonzalez as the AB’s lead was now 7-0.  Scherzer would remain perfect until Valbuena lead off the 6th w/ a 15-9 single.  Big Papi would FINALLY make a HR stand up in the 7th by leading off the frame w/ a solo shot to make it 8-0.  Scherzer would pitch his way out of trouble he created in the 8th on a BB and his own error and finish off w/a  CG 1 hit shutout while fanning 11.  McCullers took the loss.
Game 4
Miller v Syndergaard.  The AB’s tried to get going in the top of the 1st but with 1st and 3rd and 1 out Longoria grounded into a DP.  In the 2nd Pillar would draw a 1 out BB and steal 2nd.  Swihart then hit a rare play grounder to 3rd which Hosmer turned into another DP by nabbing Pillar trying to go to 3rd after getting Swihart at 1st.  Miller kept wiggling out of trouble through his first 5 innings as the Bees just couldn’t get a big hit.  In the bottom of the 5th the AB’s would strike with a 1 out single by Swihart, followed by a hit and run single by Forsythe, an Andrus SAC fly plated Swihart, and then Trout tripled home Forsythe to make it 2-0.  Upton led off the 6th w/ a walk, Cano singled, and then Reddick singled in Upton to cut the lead to 2-1.  Miller gave way to Melancon who came on to get the next 3 Bees out..  Cedeno came on in the 7th and yielded a pinch hit double to Braun to start the inning.  Hosmer popped out and then Gonzalez grounded back to the box advancing Braun to 3rd w/ 2 outs.  Upton then singled on a rare play fielding 3 roll by Trout (fielded one….inning over) and went to 3rd on Trouts error.  Cano then stepped up and belted a 2 run HR off Cedeno to give the Bees a 4-2 lead.  The AB’s would threaten w/ 2 runners in the 7th but neither Trout nor Ozuna (O for the season and about to find himself buried in the minors for the season) could come through.  The AB’s got the tying run on the 9th but just couldn’t get back to Trout as Andrus rolled a 51-9 after a 2 out Forsythe walk to end the game.  Giles got the win w/ another save to Capps while Cedeno took the loss.

Series and Other Notes
The Bees went 4 for 25 w/ RISP for a .160 clip while the AB’s went 15-38 for a .395 clip (The AB’s were 0 for 7 in game 4).
Hammel turned back a BB in his start while Bees pitchers combined to turn back 3 BB’s and 2 HR’s.
The RP boards continue to haunt the AB’s as what seems like  9 outta 10 times this season the results seem to stink for AB’s.
AB’s are now 18-14.  Are hitting .206 overall and .245 with RISP while their opponent is hitting .228 w/ RISP.
With 35% of the season down the AB’s have now used 25% of their relief innings which is amazing considering all the extra inning games in the first 3 series.
The AB’s have turned back 22 BB’s while gifting 1…..and they have turned back 2 HR’s while gifting 1.  On the flip side the AB’s hitters have had 21 BB’s turned back (no gifts) while having 6 HR’s turned back (guess what….no gifts).
AB’s have been out homered 34-32 (see the previous note).

One dreaded 4 game series left in the 1st period v the Shooting Stars.  I’ll probably try to play it in the next couple weeks and then will be looking to begin period 2….3 game series…yeah!!!  Good luck everyone!

BTW if anyone is looking to trade any starting pitching please let me know….I’m interested.  Thanks.
