Shooting Stars II at Lymebees

Game 1:  Lackey VS McCullers

Stars waste no time.  First inning Villar singles followed by Pedroia hit-n-run single making it first and third.  Carpenter RBI fielder’s choice.  Pence flies out moving Pedroia to third.  NUNEZ  Stars draft of the year…promptly walks….promptly caught stealing by Contreras to end the top of the  first.
Stars up 1-0.
Bottom of first with one out Cabrera homers to tie the game.
Bottom of second Belltre doubles followed by Hosmer ripping a triple.  End of two Lymebees 2-1 over Stars.
The bottom of the third Stars management pulls Lackey who pouts all the way to the dugout.  Recently acquired Flynn pitches one inning of quiet baseball. Chapman relieved him and finished off the fourth inning.  Lymebees hold the lead 2-1. Also newly acquired Thornburg, from the Jugs, to surrender the lead in the bottom of the fifth.  see below.
Fifth  inning had lots of action.  Pedroia walks with two out…Matty Carpenter rips a homer over the right field wall.  Stars now lead 3-2….Bottom of the inning with one out Pederson walks followed by Cano who homered to deep center  as the Bees take back the lead 4-3.
in the sixth the Lymbees make a pitching change and Devenski who goes three and two-thirds innings. Reed below for his results.
Top of seventh, with two out the Stars NO. 1 DRAFT PICK EVER..Dustin Pedroia comes through with a homer off the “pesky” pole in left field. Matty Carp celebrates with a double.  HFP celebrates with a double bringing Carpenter around. NUNEZ celebrates with a double scoring HFP.  Wilson comes in for the Stars in relief and shutdown the Bees in the seventh and eighth.   Stars regain lead 6-4.
ninth inning Seagrist finishes off the Stars, facing just two batters.  The Stars bring in Lorenzen, who take the Bees down 1, 2, 3…BUT needed a double play to do it.
Stars take Game ONE with a score of 6-4.  WP – Thornburg  LP – Devenski.
Game 2:  Finnegan VS Baumgardner
Stars score quickly in the first with a lead off single by Dyson blowing by Baumgardner’s long lucious locks.  However, no more scoring until the fifth. There was a pitching change made by the Stars during the fourth.  Fifth inning the Stars get a one out homer by Broxton followed by a double by Kemp followed by a single by Francisco Cervelli.  Plating Kemp.  Stars lead 3-0.  Bottom of fifth Beltre leads off with a HR for the Bees but that ends their scoring until the seventh.
Bottom of seventh Lymebees tie the game as Beltre hits another HR, only this time Hosmer happened to be on first.  Score tied at 3.  Many pitching changes later at the top of the TENTH Stars start scoring as Dyson hits a one out single followed by newly acquired Hardy who rips a double down the first baseline.  One out later Yasmany Tomas slams a homer only to have it turned back by Gregerson. Stars close down the Bees in the tenth and Stars win 5-3.  Fun Fact:  Stars used 7 pitchers and Bees used 5.  WP – Givens  S – Lorenzen.  LP – Gregerson.
Game 3: Keuchel VS Fulmer
Top of first with two out Matty Carpenter and HFP each hit solo homers.  Bottom of first Cabrera and Beltre each walk and come around to score on singles by Cano and Franco, knotting the score at two each.
Top of the third Cervelli triples followed by a Villar gives Stars a two-run lead at 4-2.  That’s all for the scoring until the seventh inning when Braun leads off with a one-out single.  Cabrera homers, however, it is turned back into a double.  Catcher Leon singles and brings the tying run to the plate.  Stars get the go-ahead homer in the eighth by Nunez BUT it’s turned back into a double and the runner never scores.  Six innings later and many many pitchers in the bottom of the 14th Cano leads off with a HR to prevent the sweep by the Stars who won the game 5-4.  WP – Devenski.  LP – Cahill.

Speakers at Browns

The Speakers came downtown to face the Browns yesterday.

Game 1: Tanaka v Martinez. The Browns got out to an early lead when Peraza was hit by a pitch leading off the game and came around to score on an Abreu 2-out RBI single. The advantage was pushed to 3-0 in the second when Belt and Calhoun walked and were plated on RBI singles (once again with 2 outs) by Reddick and Dozier. Dozier added a solo homer in the bottom of the 8th and Cargo got one back in the top of the 9th with a dinger of his own off Donnie Hart. Tanaka got the win, Martinez took a CG loss. Browns 4/7/0 Speakers 1/4/0

Game 2: Cueto v Price. The Speakers got right to work in the 1st as Cespedis doubled followed by a Rizzo double and a Machado single to make it 2-0. It could have been worse for the Browns since Cargo was picked off first prior to Cespedis’ double and Machado’s rolled a homer which was turned back. The Brown got the 2 runs right back in the bottom of the 1st as Maybin led off with a double and Guyer got hit. Abreu drove in Maybin with a single and Guyer came all the way around to score on a Cespedis error. Then the bats went quiet as both teams combined for 3 hits over the next 4 1/2 innings. The Sharts got the next run with some small ball in the 6th. Ramirez worked a 1-out walk and moved to 3rd on Seager’s hit-and-run single. Belt brought Ramirez in with ground out to make it 3-2. Cueto improves to 4-5 while Price went the distance in the loss. Nate Jones got 5 outs for his 3rd save. Browns 3/5/1 Speakers 2/5/1

Game 3: Montgomery v Hellickson. The Speakers opened the scoring once again with a C. Young RBI single plating R. Davis in the 1st. Jose Ramirez got a gifted HR (vs a -12) in the 2nd and Reddick socked a solo shot in the 3rd to put the Sharts up 2-1. Cespedis doubled in the 4th and came around to score on a Seager error one batter later to tie things up at 2. The Browns pulled away with a Seager two-run double in the 5th and two more runs thanks to doubles from Dozier and Belt with a Ramirez triple sandwiched in between in the 7th. Montgomery (3-1) was the winner while Hellickson took the loss. Browns 6/12/1 Speakers 2/3/1
